Weaving Diagrams綜卦
Weaving diagram are very closely related. If one diagram occurs one way, the other diagram will always follow in the opposite direction. It works in the way a weaves cloth; after the thread is pulled up, it must be pulled down. One example of such a pair of weaving diagram is Lu履and Xiao Chu小畜diagrams. The Lu shows Dui兌 and on the bottom and Qian 乾on top. It signifies advancement, moving from a low position of the lakes, to the high position of the sky. It is an outgoing diagram. Reading the diagram in reverse, from top to bottom, produces the Xiao Chu diagram, showing Qian on the bottom and Xun巽 on top. Winds blowing above the sky portend a change in weather. The Xiao Chu diagram signifies the preparations and savings made for this change. It is a more conservative diagram. Since the Lu and Xiao Chu diagrams are weaving diagrams, it gives us some insight into advancement, self- preparation, and savings. When a person advances and pushes forward, he must, at the same time, prepare himself through rest, relaxation, and preservation of good health. When he has had enough rest, he must move forward once again. For example, when a person works for a long time, he gets tired and, therefore, needs to relax and rest for a while. Once he has had enough rest, however, he has to get back to work. Applying the diagram
All phenomena have a counterpart phenomenon. When a phenomenon occurs in one direction, its counterpart follows in the opposite direction. Therefore, when we reside in a good situation, we must hope and prepare for the upcoming good. Nonetheless we must always have hope and prepare for the upcoming good. If we reside in a good situation, how do we go about preventing disaster? One way is to continue to make progress, push forward, and don't let the tide turn. As a flower in spring blooms to its brightest, we too must seize the advantage and meet everything head on. On the other hand, if we reside in a bad situation, we should not go against in head on. As a bird flies against the wind by folding its wing, likewise we must be discreet and tactful.
